The 2022 subsidy pot has been filled again for electric cars, but what about that?

10 januari 2022

A new subsidy pot was opened at the beginning of January this year. This means that you can apply for a subsidy when you purchase or lease an electric car , the Subsidy for Electric Passenger Cars for Private Individuals. Below you can read all the ins and outs about this subsidy.

A number of conditions

An electric car has many advantages. This way it is better for the environment, you save a lot of money and you can also apply for a subsidy. You must meet a number of conditions if you want to qualify for this subsidy. Firstly, this subsidy has only been made available to private individuals who want to buy or lease. In addition, the subsidy is only intended for 100% electric cars: new or used. In addition, the electric car must have a range of at least 120 kilometers. The list price is also subject to a condition: it must be between 12,000 and 45,000 euros. And of course the electric car must have been purchased or leased in this year.

How much subsidy is available?

In previous years, the subsidy pot was empty very quickly. Just think of last year, where the pot was filled with more than fourteen million euros. That jar was gone within six months. However, this purchase subsidy was higher than this year: last year they received 4,000 euros in subsidy, while in 2022 this will be 3,350 euros. This year the subsidy pot is therefore filled with 71 million euros for new electric cars. So the pot has become a lot bigger. It is good to point out that the following applies to the pot: when it's gone, it's gone.

How much subsidy am I entitled to?

It was just mentioned briefly, but you are entitled to a subsidy of 3,350 euros. This does apply to a new electric car. Do you have a second-hand electric car in mind and do you want to buy or lease it? Then you are entitled to 2000 euros. A completely different pot applies to second-hand electric cars: this is filled with 20.4 million euros. The government is making electric driving a lot more attractive in this way.

How do I apply for a subsidy?

If you have purchased or leased an electric car, it is important to apply for a subsidy within sixty days of signing the agreement. By the way, it is always a good idea to mention that you have to be quick. The longer you wait, the greater the chance that there will be less money left in the pot. You apply for a subsidy with your DigiD via the website 'rvo.nl'. You will then receive approval from the government. Please keep in mind that this can take thirteen weeks.

Keep this in mind

It is important to read up on the subsidy. For example, you have to repay part of the subsidy if you buy a new car within three years. The car must therefore be registered in your name for three consecutive years. You must also keep all documents, such as the purchase agreement, in a safe place. You are obliged to keep this for three years.
