Abolition of BPM exemption for company cars.

17 juli 2023

Do you currently use a van with a gray license plate for your work? Then we have important news for you. From 2025 there will be a change regarding the BPM exemption for these vehicles. Currently, you do not have to pay BPM if you use the van for more than 10 percent business purposes. However, from 2025 this will no longer be the case and you will have to pay BPM for your van. The government is actively pushing for stricter vehicle standards at European level and aims to ban fossil vehicles with combustion engines from 2030, five years earlier than the European Commission proposes (from 2035).

How is bpm calculated?

The amount of BPM you have to pay is determined based on the expected CO2 emissions of your car. For diesel and petrol cars, this rate currently amounts to 66.91 euros per gram of CO2. Until 2025, commercial vehicles can still benefit from the BPM exemption. We understand that these changes may impact your business and mobility needs. Would you like to benefit from a BPM exemption for your new company car before the new regulations? At 123Lease we are happy to advise you!

Increase in motor vehicle tax

In addition, motor vehicle tax for vans will increase by 15 percent from 2025. After a simultaneous reduction of 4.34 percent, this results in a net increase of 10.1 percent. In 2026, this tax will increase by another 6.96 percent.

Electric commercial vehicles

If you want to avoid being confronted with these high costs, it is advisable to switch to an electric van now or from early 2025. Electric vehicles do not emit CO2 and therefore you do not have to pay BPM for these emission-free cars.
